Important Changes to the Remote Access System

The division has recently replaced the remote access system with a new solution. This new solution requires that we disable Microsoft Terminal Server access to the servers connecting from remote.cornerstonesd.ca. There are now multiple servers configured as a "Farm of Servers" that together will load balance clients across each device in order to ensure optimum performance of the system.

If you previously connected to the system using Microsoft Terminal Server, please download the Citrix client below and connect via the new web interface. You will only need to install the client once.

If you have installed the client, and the system does not immediately detect it, please click on the "End Detection Process" link to exit the client detection process and access the system. This issue can occur when your computer has an older version of the client already installed.

If you experience difficulty accessing the system, please do not hesitate to contact your local IS Technical Analyst for support.

Citrix Server - Remote Access System

The Division has implemented a server technology called Citrix to provide remote access to staff. This system will allow access into the Cornerstone Wide Area Network (WAN) to gain access to files and selected applications.

Please click on the link below or access http://remote.cornerstonesd.ca to login to the system. You should access the system using your email account username and password.

If your school has been “refreshed” you will have secure access to all your network drives, and files, in addition to a number of programs. You should also have access to printers in your school. If your school has not been refreshed, you will still be able to gain access to Microsoft Outlook for email. You will also have access to your local C:\ drive using My Computer, so you are able to move files back and forth between home and work.

This system is a “Kiosk” type system, so you will not have any settings saved in between sessions. This implementation was chosen to provide maximum availability, and performance when accessing the network.

Currently the following applications are being published:

• Remote Desktop
• Microsoft Outlook 2007
• Microsoft Word 2007
• Microsoft Excel 2007
• Microsoft PowerPoint 2007
• Microsoft Access 2007
• Microsoft Project 2007
• Microsoft Visio 2007

• MIG SIRS v. 4.0
• Microsoft Dynamics NAV (Navision)
• ePPP for select users
• KwikTag
• Internet Explorer (internal network)
• Firefox (internal network)

Virtual Private Network Access
This area explains what you will need to know to access our network remotely
through a secure VPN connection.

GETTING CONNECTED

1. To access the VPN portal page, open a web browser and enter:
https://secure.cornerstonesd.ca

2. After you type the URL and press Enter, you might see a Security Alert
window. Click Yes to proceed (your connection will be secure).

Note: Throughout this procedure, if your personal firewall prompts
you to give the Citrix software access through the firewall, be sure
to do so.

3. When prompted, enter your usual email network login user name and password.

4. Next you will see a Security Warning, asking if you want to install the ActiveX Helper. Click Yes to continue.

5. When the Virtual Network Portal page displays, choose "My own computer" if you are using your own computer. Choose "A public computer" if you are using someone else's computer, such as an Internet kiosk or a friend's computer.

Note: If you choose "My own computer" a small client application will
be installed on your computer. Under Windows 2000, the installation
will not work unless you have permission to install programs on your
computer. For example, you must be a member of a non-restricted
group such as Power Users or Administrators. (The Users Group
restricts a user from installing programs.) This limitation applies to
Windows XP for first-time installation only, not for upgrades.

If you choose "A public computer" nothing is installed on the computer and no cookies are sent to it.

6. When asked to log in, supply your usual email user name and password.

After the Secure Access Client is installed on your computer, you can easily log in for future VPN sessions by double-clicking the Secure Access Client desktop icon and entering your login user name and password.

GETTING TO YOUR FILES

When you make a VPN connection from your own computer, you can work
with network files just as if you were at school or in the office. To do that, you must map a network drive to the locations noted below. When you make a VPN connection from a public computer, the Secure Access window provides links to any network locations or files that you can access.

The following network locations are accessible through the VPN connection:

As your school is cutover to the new network, your servers will be added to this list:

\\pang-server
\\echs-server
\\wjhs-server
\\wchs-server
\\gfks-server
\\midl-server
\\quel-server
\\rocn-server
\\sris-server
\\haig-server
\\apes-server
\\altr-server
\\bdge-server
\\ogma-server

1. To access your network files, right-click the My Computer or My Network
Places icon on your desktop and choose Map Network Drive.

2. In the Folder text box, enter one of the above paths.

3. Click Finish and then enter your user name and password when prompted.

A window will open, showing you the directories that you can access from
that network location.

IF YOU HAVE A FIREWALL ON YOUR COMPUTER

If you run a firewall on your computer, you might need to change the firewall
settings so that it does not block traffic to or from the IP addresses that you can access. For example, if you use Zone Alarm, you might need to put the
following IP addresses in your Trusted Zone:
