The community of Manor came together on Nov. 16 to show their support for a local family.  Manor School staff and students organized and ran a Benefit Supper and Auction for Shawna Englot to help with the costs incurred as a result of her cancer treatments.  Englot was diagnosed with liver cancer on Oct. 7 of this year and ever since, has been undertaking chemo treatments every other week.

The food which was donated by the staff and families of students from Manor School, fed 250 people who came out to support the family during their time of need.  Family, friends and community members filled the gymnasium from 5 to 8 p.m. to take part in the evening fundraiser.

Students worked with the help of staff and parents to prepare for the evening which included working the door, selling 50/50 tickets and raffle tickets, working the silent auction, serving supper and helping in the kitchen in addition to cleaning up following the event.

The event was sold out with individuals attending supper and raising funds for he Englot family.  Charitable receipts were given for cash donations and more than 35 silent auctionitems, 35 raffle items and 54 door prizes allowed $19,066. to be raised in total.

We wish to send out a "Thank you to everyone who helped in any way towards the benefit" including:  parents for donating/cooking all the food, those who donated cash prizes/raffle items and those who attended and supported by purchasing from auction or buying tickets.  In addition, we would like to thank those who worked before, during and after the benefit, the Legion Hall for lending tables and chairs, the Anglican Church ladies for writing receipts and the Carlyle Observer for the advertising help.  And lastly, a huge "Thank you" to all of the students and staff for all your help with the benefit, it really makes you proud of our little school and community.
