Hillcrest School Breakfast Program a Big Hit

Students of Hillcrest School have been getting an earlier start to their day with the new breakfast program that was launched in September. At the half way point of the school year, Community Councillor Sara Pippus believes the program has been a huge success for everyone involved.

With the help of volunteers, the Hillcrest school has been serving breakfast daily to students, who have been taking full advantage of the program. The program also creates a social environment and facilitates sharing of 'breakfast time' with other students who do not utilize the program.

Since the school year is only half way done, Pippus notes that it is still too early to tell the exact impact of the breakfast program on student performance, however, assessments will likely be conducted after the school year has ended. Classroom management and student focus have improved and many organizations and community members are jumping on board to assist with the process.

Pippus is hoping the breakfast program becomes one that will be adopted by other schools to ensure that each student is catered to in every way possible.
