Computers for Students
Are you looking for an inexpensive desktop computer to own at home for your child(ren) to learn and work on? If so, your child(ren)’s school and South East Cornerstone Public School Division may be able to help you out.

Every year South East Cornerstone Public School Division replaces technology throughout the division, including roughly 1,000 computing devices. When a computer reaches four to five years of service, the warranties expire and we typically replace the equipment.  When this occurs, we look to recycle the equipment and bring in fresh technology in your son’s or daughter’s classroom.

However, just because the computers have reached the end of their warranty does not mean they are at the end of their life. Many, if not all, of these computers still have plenty of life left in them and can still be used and operated. So instead of sending these computers for recycling, we first look to give them back to students and families at local schools.

This means you will have the opportunity to apply to your school to receive a free-of-charge desktop computer tower (without a monitor). These four-year-old Dell desktop towers come equipped with Windows XP, Open Office suite and an anti-virus suite.

So how can you receive one of these computers? The principal of your school will have a form you can fill to apply for a free desktop computer.  The form is also available for download on our website at www.cornerstonesd.ca.  Once the principal has approved your request, you will be informed as to when and where you can pick up your computer.

Our intent in this process is to get adequate technology into the hands of students who might otherwise not have the opportunity to own a computer of their own. If you are interested in receiving one of these computers, we would encourage you to pick up an application form at your child(ren)’s school, fill it out and submit it to the principal. Within a short while you should be informed if your family will be receiving one of these computers.
